Container transport

There are a number of different processes in container transport logistics. Finding the right process for you depends on your goods and your preferences.

Import containers

For example, here’s how things work if your recipient lacks the resources to unload containers themselves and would like the goods delivered on pallets:

  • The container is loaded at the railway station or at a Rhine port
  • We unload it in the transshipment warehouse in Pratteln
  • We bring the empty container to the container depot
  • We sort, palletise or neutralise the unloaded goods at your request and deliver them to the desired destination according to your specifications – or  store them

Export containers

Here’s how we proceed when the exporter does not have the personnel or expertise for stowing or securing containers.

  • Your goods are picked up according to your specifications
  • We pick up an empty container from the depot and prepare it for loading in Pratteln
  • The container is stowed, secured and sealed (with an HSS, or high security seal) here
  • We now get the container by truck to the railway station, to a Rhine port or, in very urgent cases, directly to the seaport in Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg or elsewhere, as your instructions dictate

Import container direct

For direct import of your container without transshipment:

  • We pick your container up at the railway station or a Rhine port
  • We take it by road directly to the recipient, where it can be unloaded on site
  • We bring the empty container back to the container depot

Export container direct

For direct export of your container without transshipment:

  • We get the empty container from the depot
  • We provide it for loading directly at the shipper
  • After loading, the container is secured and sealed (HSS)
  • We now get the container by truck to the railway station, to a Rhine port or, in very urgent cases, directly to the seaport in Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg or elsewhere, as your instructions dictate

Containers

Every year, we roll out 35,000 sea freight containers across Switzerland. We can handle standard, high-cube, reefer and tank containers, in 20-, 40- or 45-foot configurations.

Container vehicles

Our land transport fleet for your ISO containers comprises over 60 towing vehicles and 220 different container chassis, most equipped with air suspension. 

Loading/unloading

For land transport, we can assist with both FCL loading as well as general cargo via LCL loading. For FEU, TEU or other load volumes, we configure our pre- and post-shipment methods to the volume and specifications of your freight.

Freight types

We are happy to handle almost any freight that goes by sea before or after road transport. Our container logistics services even allow for hazardous goods of all kinds, with the exception of radioactive hazardous goods (class 7).

GDP guidelines

Medicinal and medical products are transported in accordance with the current Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines. We ensure temperature control from collection to delivery with uninterrupted temperature recording.

Delivery status

You can access all relevant status information for your orders via our web-based customer portal. The live data makes it easy to see the current status of your containers online at any time.

Automatic data transfer

Our IT department uses an electronic data interface (EDI) to link your ERP software with our transport or warehouse logistics system – or both. This ensures that all transport-related data such as sender and recipient, type of goods, number of items, packaging, gross weight, dimensions and all the information required for warehouse logistics such as article master data, production order, parts list, customer order, status bookings and returns handling match your ERP data. If you do not want an EDI interface, you can enter your orders manually in our customer portal.
