We’ve maintained a tradition of general cargo transport since 1936. Over the decades, we have consistently refined our skills. And today, we transport 60% of your general cargo by low-emission rail overnight to your destination region.

With an efficient network and intelligent scheduling, we bring your goods to the region where they need to go with optimal cost benefit to you. Once there, they are distributed by our expert local drivers; to the farthest-flung valley or the heart of the city with our city logistics.

Top services for the best goods

General cargo transport

Focus on rail
In general cargo transport, getting ahead takes accessibility, availability, efficiency and sustainability. That’s why our 13 rail centres link the dense, Switzerland-wide freight rail network with our transport and warehouse logistics services. Today, we send around 60% of our shipments by low-emission rail. Night after night, we send around 23'000 shipments on 240 or so rail wagons and save the environment several tonnes of CO2.

Reliability and flexibility
We pick up your general cargo at the desired location and deliver it throughout Switzerland and Liechtenstein on the following working day. In between, your goods cover the bulk of the distance overnight by rail – reliable, punctual rail. And 85% of the goods from consolidated shipments are delivered by noon. If your goods exceed the usual dimensions or require special handling, you can choose from a whole range of services for special formats.

Partial loads

If you want to ship goods but your order doesn’t fill the entire vehicle, we refer to this as a partial load. Often, there is no reloading with partial load transport, which makes it faster and more flexible than general cargo transport. On request, we can deliver partial loads on the same day.

Complete loads

A complete load is the fastest, most flexible and most economical type of transport. That’s because we can match the transport completely to the technical specifications of your goods and to your wishes. Where possible, we also use low-emission trains with swap bodies for these orders.

Temperature-controlled transport

Some shipments, such as pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs, are temperature sensitive. We use special vehicles with electronically controlled temperature control in dedicated or mixed transport. We guarantee compliance with all the requirements of hygiene and product regulations.

Hazardous goods transport

Fireworks, lithium batteries, certain fertilisers, chlorine and other chemicals are considered hazardous goods. With the exception of radioactive materials, we transport and store all types of hazardous goods. Here, too, we adhere to the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and the rail equivalent (RID), the Federal Council Ordinance on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road and the Swiss Ordinance on Hazardous Goods. Our drivers are trained in the professional handling of hazardous substances, contributing to maximum safety for people and the environment.

Air freight

Before your air freight is ready for take-off, we get it ready for carriage. This means that it is clearly labelled – if necessary, with the appropriate hazardous goods warning label – screened in accordance with the strictest security requirements, collected in good time and also delivered punctually. For those of us in logistics, road feeder service also includes constructing and equipping the pallets for the aircraft down to the centimetre and securing shipments accordingly.

City logistics

Traffic and environmental pollution in cities is steadily increasing. That is why we adhere to the concept of city logistics. This refers to consolidated delivery of goods to recipients in city centres with the least amount of delivery rounds per day. The goods arrive at our urban railway centres by rail from locations throughout Switzerland. Here, we load them onto delivery vans, trucks, alternative-drive vehicles or, in Zermatt, even onto a horse-drawn carriage. We then deliver the shipments in a consolidated flow of goods. This helps lessen the strain on urban infrastructure while ensuring consistent quality of supply and greater economic efficiency in urban freight transport.
